Gail R. (Dick) Foster

Gail Richard (Dick) Foster, age 86, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas, from health complications after suffering a fall at home.

Dick was born September 28, 1935, in Humboldt, Kansas. to Charles Foster and Holland (Summers) Foster. He was baptized on September 28, 1935, and was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He began his employment with the City of Humboldt on June 1, 1952, at the age of 16 as a seasonal worker, mowing, cleaning city hall, and sweeping the streets on Friday nights. Dick served in the United States Army from 1958-1960 and was stationed in Korea. Upon his return from the military, he continued his career with the City of Humboldt becoming Water Plant Superintendent in 1962, Water/Sewer Superintendent in 1973, and finally City Superintendent in 1982.

Dick was united in marriage to Ruby Marie Culbertson on August 7, 1958. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2018, two weeks prior to their 60th wedding anniversary.

Dick was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Buskirk; brothers, Don Foster, an infant brother; sister-in-law, Louise Johns; and brother-in-law, Steve Whitney.

Dick is survived by one daughter, Lynn Lytle and husband, Don, Humboldt, Kansas; grandchildren, Jared Lytle and wife, Morgan, Farlington, Kansas, Justin Lytle and wife, Nicole, Eugene, Oregon, Jessie Lowe and husband, Alex, Chanute, Kansas; great-granddaughter, Parker Rose Lowe, Chanute, Kansas; sister-in-law, Barbara Scott and husband, Jack, Humboldt, Kansas; brother-in-law, Wayne Culbertson and wife, Jean, Metter, Georgia.

A funeral service honoring Dick's life will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Kansas. Prior to the funeral service, the family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
