Gary McAuley, age 63, passed away at home in rural Garnett, Kansas on June 11, 2023.
Gary was born on August 13, 1959 in Peoria, Illinois. He was the third of four children born to Ronald and Delores (Keller) McAuley. Gary grew up in Peoria, Illinois and Catoosa, Oklahoma and graduated from Catoosa High School. On October 4, 1997, Gary married Jeannette Roberts. They were blessed with three children: Angela, Tiona, and Joshua.
Gary started his career in the oil fields as a seismologist in several states. He then worked in construction specializing in carpentry and remodeling for many years. Finally, he worked for the City of Garnett before retiring in 2022.
Gary was all about the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, horseback riding and canoeing. He was a tinkerer on all things with wheels. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He was a Jack of all trades, master of none.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Delores (Keller) McAuley; his brother Ronald McAuley; his sister Jacqueline (Holmes) Quinn; and his father-in-law Ed Roberts.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jeannette, of the home; mother-in-law Loriene and husband Leon Hirt; three children Angela and husband Joseph Lusby of Melvern, Kansas, Tiona and husband Michael O'Reilly of Mitchellstown, Ireland, and Joshua and fiance Merissa (Larkin) McAuley of Garnett, Kansas; seven grandchildren Cameron and wife Sarah Glenn of Ottawa, Kansas, Collin Glenn of Melvern, Kansas, Levi Wessel of Melvern, Kansas, Kayleigh O'Reilly of Mitchellstown, Ireland, Clarissa O'Reilly of Mitchellstown, Ireland, JJ Lusby of Melvern, Kansas, and Lucas McAuley of Garnett, Kansas; one brother Scott McAuley of Catoosa, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law David and wife Dianne Roberts of Winchester, Kentucky; three nephews Jason and wife Candice Roberts of Lansing, Kansas, Kyle and wife Hannah Roberts of Winchester, Kentucky, Nicholas and wife Rebecca Roberts of Winchester, Kentucky; two nieces Dawn Holmes of Peoria, Illinois, and Tracy Selby of Greenville, South Carolina; and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday June 19, 2023, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas. Gary's family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday June 18, 2023 at the funeral home.
