George Junior Covey, age 96, of Elsmore, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at his home. He was born March 30, 1915, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of George and Golda Faye (Botkin) Covey. He attended East High at Wichita and graduated from Wichita State University in 1937. He was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church. He married Betty Reiswig on October 2, 1943 in El Dorado, Kansas by a justice of the peace. George was a farmer all of his life. He farmed in western Kansas before moving to Elsmore in 1945. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Covey on June 2, 2007; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Smith and Betty Jean Covey (Darling). George is survived by four sons, Gene Covey and wife, Carol of Moran, Kansas; Gary Covey and wife Beverly of Elsmore, Kansas; Gilbert Covey and wife Diana of Elsmore, Kansas; John Covey and wife Trish of Moran, Kansas; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Moran Cemetery, Moran, Kansas, with Pastor Lloyd Houk officiating. George will lie in state at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Horizon Hospice with Neosho Memorial Medical Center.
