George Meiwes

George Joseph Meiwes, 83, of rural Moran, Kansas, died Monday, September 27, 2010, at his home. George was born May 19, 1927, in rural Okarche, Oklahoma the son of Steve and Margaret Ann (Rausch) Meiwes. He grew up in the Canadian County, Oklahoma area. On October 7, 1947, George married Gertrude E. Lagaly in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Union City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Oklahoma until 1956 when they moved to the panhandle of Texas. In 1967, they made their home on a farm northwest of Moran. George enjoyed his family and caring for his cattle and crops. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Iola, Kansas. VISITATION: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at St. John's Parish Center in Iola, Kansas ROSARY & MASS: The parish rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola, Kansas BURIAL: Moran Cemetery, Moran, KS MEMORIAL CHOICES: St. John's Catholic Church or Parkinson's Foundation Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
