Gerald E. Clay, age 89, of Iola, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, Kansas.
Gerald was born on September 15, 1935, in La Harpe, Kansas, the son of William & Eula (Markley) Clay. He graduated from La Harpe High School in 1954. Gerald married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Manbeck, in June of 1956. They were blessed with three boys, Larry, David & Chris.
He managed and then owned his own lumber business for many years, and later worked and retired from Gates Rubber Company in Iola.
In his free time, Gerald enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and spending time with family, which brought him joy and relaxation. He was also a city council member and served on the school board in La Harpe.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years, sons Larry (Amber) from Emporia, Kansas and Chris (Kim), from Deerfield, Missouri, five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one brother, Bill Clay, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son David, his parents, and nine siblings.
Gerald will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through his family and friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 6, 2024, 4:00-6:00 PM, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. The memorial service will be Monday, October 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM, in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. A private inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later time. The memorial service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend. The livestream link will be available at the bottom of the obituary on the funeral home's website.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Wings of Warriors Cancer Foundation and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
