Gerald Harlan "Mac" Mackey, 91, longtime resident of Kansas City, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Tara Gardens in Iola, Kansas. Mac was born July 23, 1921, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the son of William Greene and Ora Dell (Perkins) Mackey. He grew up in Jonesboro and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the service, he made his home in Kansas City where he worked for GM, then owned and operated M&M Trash Service and he retired from Peerless. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Grandview, Missouri. Mac was married to Evelyn Belle Peer and they had one son, Gerald Allen Mackey. She preceded him in death. He later married Madeline Townsend and she preceded him in death. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter-In-Law: Freida Mackey of Humboldt, KS 2 Granddaughters: Theresa Herder of Humboldt, KS and Debra Mackey of Kansas City, MO 2 Great Grandchildren: Ethan & Melanie Herder He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Allen Mackey, brother Joseph Mackey and sister Gladys Mackey. Cremation has taken place. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, assisted the family.
