Gerald Welsh, age 74, of Selma, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at his home. He was born August 26, 1935 at Garnett, Kansas, the son of Olin and Marjorie (Steele) Welsh. He graduated from the Kincaid High School. He made his home a farm near Selma where he was a cattleman and a farmer. Gerald's work was his passion and he did not have too many hobbies, but his family was his greatest joy. Some "vacations" for his children consisted of riding along while Gerald hauled hay out of state. He was a member of the former Kincaid Fertilizer Company, and the Anderson County Rural Water District #5 Board. Gerald married LaNelle DePoe on December 4, 1954; six children were born to this union. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Marjorie Welsh and an infant brother, Gary. Gerald is survived by his wife LaNelle Welsh, of the home, three sons, Daniel Welsh and wife Carla of McGregor, Texas; Donald Welsh of Garnett, Kansas; Lester Welsh and wife Deborah of Garnett, Kansas; three daughters, Christena McGhee and husband Kendall of Neosho Falls, Kansas; Pamela Yoder and husband Andy Ray of Garnett, Kansas; and Beth Davis of Colony, Kansas; brother, Ronnie Welsh and wife Patty of Stillwater, Oklahoma; sister Leila Thompson and husband Howard of Garnett, Kansas; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Kincaid Selma-United Methodist Church, burial to follow at the Kincaid Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church.
