Geraldine "Jerry" Louise Beal, age 87, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at her daughter’s home near Savonburg, Kansas. She was born October 2, 1931 in Fort Scott, Kansas, to John and Pearl Turner. She graduated from Iola High School and received a nursing degree from Halstead School of Nursing in 1952. Although she worked various Doctors’ offices and hospitals for a few years, the main part of her career was spent working in nursing homes the Iola area. On March 21, 1954, she married Donald L. Beal and while maintaining her nursing career she helped him build and run a large hog farm operation near Mildred, Kansas, until his death in 1986. In 1989, she moved to Iola and then made her final residence in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1993. Due to declining health, she spent the last months of her life living with her eldest daughter. She enjoyed collecting Norman Rockwell figurines and porcelain dolls. Jerry also enjoyed embroidering and doing word search puzzles. She liked to travel and was able to take many of her grandchildren on a trip for their thirteenth birthday. She was a member of Central Christian Center in Joplin, Missouri. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband Don, infant daughter Sandy, oldest son Roger, and all six of her siblings. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her three surviving children: Rhonda Hawkinson, Savonburg, Kansas; Dennis Beal, Chanute, Kansas; Debi Jones, Pittsburg, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and spouses; and 28 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service for Jerry will be Wednesday March 6, 2019, 10:00 A.M. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 Us-Hwy 54 Iola, Kansas. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
