Gladys E. Zwiener, age 96, of Garnett, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Guest Home Estates, Garnett.   Gladys was born on March 13, 1922 at Wirt. Oklahoma.  She was the second of three children born to Ernest and LaVelle (Swisher) Talbot.  Her family moved to Slick, Oklahoma for a brief time before moving to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  When Gladys was in the third grade, her family moved to a farm northeast of Bush City, Kansas.  Gladys attended the Willow Branch school for her third through eighth grade years.  She then graduated with the class of 1940 from Garnett High School.   On August 8, 1940 Gladys married Raymond Edwin Zwiener at Harrisonville, Missouri.  Their union was blessed with four children, Evelyn Dorrene, Carol Jean, Sandra Rae, and Larry Lee.  Gladys was a member of the First Christian Church, Garnett.  She was a dedicated fan of all of her grandchildren and their activities.  She was known to many as “Grandma Gladys” and she loved attending local sporting events even after her grandchildren were out of school.  She was a people person and she never met a stranger.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond on September 3, 1979; her daughter, Evelyn Thompson on January 6, 2014; two sons in law, Scott Powelson and Clayton Erhart; grandson, Daniel Zwiener; great-grandson, Ryan Zwiener; great-great-grandson, Elliot Rumbach; sister, Doris Kueser; and brother, Ernest “Gene” Talbot. Gladys is survived by her children, Carol Powelson, Sandy Erhart and Pat Tate, and Larry and Linda Zwiener, all of Garnett; nine grandchildren, Gloria Newman, Donald and Richard Wellman, Terry and Royce Powelson, Dennis and Darrell Erhart, Raymond and Kevin Zwiener; 29 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the First Christian Church, Garnett.  Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service chapel, Garnett.
