Glen H. Searcy, 87, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, March 11, 2011, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Glen was born March 10, 1924, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Roy and Grace (Harmon) Searcy. He attended Deer Creek and Rock Creek country schools, Iola High School and Allen County Junior College. On October 22, 1944, Glen married Alberta Beck in Chanute, Kansas. They farmed in Humboldt until 1965. He then was employed by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture as an inspector until 1983 when they moved to Topeka as a supervisor until his retirement in 1989. While working for the Kansas State Board of Agriculture he earned a life time membership in the American Association of Fertilizer Control Officials and the American Association of Federal Control Officials. Glen was a life member in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and a member of Arab and Mirza Shrine Temples where he served as chaplain of both Shrine Temples. He was a member of the Methodist Church having served as superintendant of Jeddo Church and taught Sunday school classes for many years. He was currently a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Glen was an accomplished woodworker and many homes are adorned with that labor of love. SURVIVORS: His wife of 66 years: Alberta Searcy of the home 1 Son: J.R. Searcy and wife, Glenda Sue (Susy Norton) of Hanford, CA 2 Granddaughters: Raquel and husband, Jim Crisp of Lemoore, CA and Gerra Wynn of Hanford, CA 6 Great Grandchildren: Garrett, Jarred & Jack Crisp, Chase, Kiera & Jenna Scott. He was preceded in death by his brother Leroy. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate.
