Golda M. Hunt

d. February 28, 2017

Golda M. Hunt passed gently on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, surrounded by family and friends, including her husband of 37 years, Vernon Hunt. She was born a twin in rural Anderson County, KS just 3 minutes before her sister, Sylvia Bloomstrand, on August 13, 1931. Goldie and Sylvie were a two-some of love, laughter and little bit of trouble! Hailing from the Teter-Morrison clan, the twins shared much fun, visits, and adventures and remained very close. Goldie led a full life. She began working as a dental assistant for Dr. Frank Carothers in Garnett where she met Lawrence Selanders. She married Lawrence on September 7, 1953, and had two children, Jay and Jean. Her busy career and volunteer activities included co-owning and running PJ's the hamburger stand, driving a school bus (without power steering) of rowdy children (without seat belts) on snowy rural roads, hauling a trailer loaded with a couple of calves behind the family station wagon so the kids could go to shows, and owned and ran (back and forth) two retail dress stores called The Alley Shop in Garnett and Louisburg, After the passing of her husband Lawrence, Goldie and Vernon Hunt were married on August 8, 1980 and their dinner club, card playing and dancing days began. The next 37 years continued with hard work and loads of fun. Plus, grandbabies started arriving (6 in total) with one great grandbaby Zachary already 8 years old, and another on the way! Goldie served on the board of the Mid-America Nutrition Program Inc. and was the Site Manager of the Garnett Senior Center for many years. From programming to preparing holiday meals, she was always busy helping others enjoy their golden years. All the while she taught Sunday School, volunteered at Vacation Bible School and served on several committees as a life-long member of the Garnett First Christian Church. Goldie is survived by her husband, Vernon, her son Jay Selanders (Annie) and her daughter Dr. Jean Selanders Dydell, and Vernon's daughter Vickie Montgomery (Doug). Grandchildren include Albert Selanders (Laura), Ellie Selanders, Mary Selanders, Karina Dydell, Lawrence Dydell and Jessica Frahm (Brian). Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the First Christian Church, with burial following at the Garnett Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com A special, heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Guest Home Estates led by Sheila Wilson and the very kind Crossroads Hospice team. Contributions in Goldie's memory are welcome at the Garnett Senior Center and the First Christian Church.
