Grace M. Calahan, age 89, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas. Grace was born on October 4, 1922, in Ludlow, Massachusetts, the daughter of Herbert and Effie (Mitchell) Wilson. She grew up in the Ludlow area, attending local schools. She was united in marriage to Vergil Calahan on November 22, 1945, in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble; but her greatest joy was the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vergil Calahan on June 23, 2009; three brothers, Ralph, David and Herbert; one sister, Ruth Dean; and one grandson, Devin Mann. Grace is survived by her son, Bruce Calahan and wife Linda of Lebo, Kansas; two daughters, Gail Vermillion and husband Bob of Colony, Kansas; Tracy Mann and husband Darren of Moran, Kansas; childhood friend Josie Swartz of Ludlow, Massachusetts who called her every week; sister-in-law Ellen Wilson; ten grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and thirty-seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday morning at the funeral home in Colony. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colony Library and left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, Kansas 66032.
