Gus E. Wittry passed away peacefully on December 24, 2011, at his rural Greeley farm home where he was born on November 25, 1929, to Art and Frances (Litsch) Wittry. Gus graduated from Parker Rural High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. Gus was an Army Medic while stationed in Germany. He returned to Greeley where he married Ruth Setter on August 23, 1955. This union was blessed with seven children: Alan, Tom, Pat, Chris, Carl, Ruth, and Janet. Gus was a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Ruth; brothers-in-law Forrest McKnight, Roy Nichols, and Kirk Dutton; niece Charley Kelly; and son-in-law Max Martinez Perez. Gus is survived by Ruth Wittry of the home; children Alan Wittry and Dorothy, Tom Wittry and Patti Hall, Pat Wittry, Chris Wittry and Jo, Carl Wittry and Karen, Janet Wright and Jim; grandchildren Jared Wittry and Kim, Nathan, and Eric Wittry, Katie Lickteig, Jake and Rachel Wittry, Chelsea and Ryan Wittry, and Maria Wright; great-grandchildren Owen, Camryn Ruth, and Sawyer Wittry; siblings Gladys Nichols, Helen McKnight, Dick Wittry and Jo Anne, and Betty Dutton; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Private family services will be held at a later date.
