Hal L. Cook, age 83, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his home. He was born on August 1, 1927, in Jasper County, Missouri, the son of Cheslea A. and Ina Marie (Rosebrough) Cook. He grew up in the area, attending Sarcoxie High School. Hal was united in marriage to Loris Stewart on June 4, 1949, at Monett, Missouri. This union was blessed with three children. After marriage, Hal worked at Juvenile Shoe Factory in Sarcoxie, Missouri, moving to Kansas City, Missouri, and working in the Fairfax District at the General Motors Plant. He then worked at Otis Elevator Company as a mechanic and was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #12 in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1959 to 1989. Upon retiring, Hal worked for Scheckel's Gun Supply, Anderson County Sale Barn and Beckman Motors, all of Garnett. He was a member of the Federated Church of Blue Mound, Kansas. Hal loved canning, gardening, and especially tending to his rose bushes. He loved attending auctions, hunting, fishing, and refurbishing antique furniture. Hal was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community. Hal especially enjoyed his friendship with those in the Amish community. Hal was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, George Cook, James Cook, and infant brother Carl Cook. He is survived by his wife, Loris Cook, of the home; one son, Danny Carl Cook of Stover, Missouri and wife Terri; two daughters, Linda Wanell Farquhar of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Tammy Lickteig and husband Ken of Centerville, Kansas; three brothers, John Cook of Joplin, MO; Bob Cook of Carl Junction, MO; Wendell Cook of Yuba City, California; three sisters, Mary Walker of Jasper, MO; Velma McBride of Carthage, MO; Bertha Barnes of Lamar, MO; nine grandchildren; Tim Farquhar and wife Kelley; Dustin Farquhar and Alissa Sanchez; Jeremy Cook; Samantha Cook; Chris Cook; Ryan Lickteig; Ashley Nelson and husband David; Shelby Lickteig, USCG Alabama; Wyatt Lickteig; eight great grandchildren, Pierce Farquhar; Kai Farquhar; Rowland Farquhar; Christian Lynn; Angelo Fiore; Addison Foster; Ashlyn Nelson; Kennedy Farquhar. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Federated Church at Blue Mound, Kansas.
