Harold Barr

Harold G. Barr, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Golden Heights, Garnett, Kansas. He was born on August 24, 1920, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Ray and Ethel (Pumphrey) Barr. Harold graduated from Garnett High School and attended Ottawa University. Harold married Jean Woods on August 30, 1941 in Miami, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with five children. He owned the Barr's Grocery and Dry Good Store in Westphalia, Kansas, and then from 1964 to the early 80s owned the Garnett Food Mart. Harold enjoyed playing golf and woodworking. He was a member of the Garnett Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, David Lynn Barr; one brother, John Barr; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Barr. Harold is survived by his wife, Jean Barr, of Garnett, Kansas; two sons, Paul Barr and wife Deb of Eudora, Kansas; Dean Barr and wife Patty of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Kay Fouts and husband Jim of New Braunfels, Texas; Jane Schulte and husband C.D. of Garnett, Kansas; two sisters, Virginia Alban of Kansas City, Missouri and Mary Tolbert of Manhattan, Kansas; Six grandchildren; and Nine Great Grandchildren. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas.
