Mr Haroldo Leo Bass

March 23, 1937 — January 6, 2020

Haroldo Leo Bass, age 82, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones at his home.

Leo was born March 23, 1937, to Jessie and Margarite (Fisher) Bass at Chanute, Kansas. He grew up in Chanute, graduating from Chanute High School. Leo then attended Neosho Community College until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1960. Leo was honorably discharged on March 26, 1962. Leo returned to Chanute where he began working at Kustom Electronics building amplifiers for many years before going to work for the City of Chanute and Neosho Paper Products.

Leo was united in marriage to Linda Collins on June 16, 1975, in Miami, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. Leo loved to visit with anyone, he never met a stranger. He loved to share his wisdom with all of his family. His smile and his sense of humor will be missed. Leo loved learning about his Native American heritage, reading anything he could get his hands on. He never stopped learning, at the time of his death he was able to communicate in English, Spanish as well as Lakota and Cherokee. Above all of his interests, his grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sibling; and a half sister, Eva (Bass) Hutson.

Leo is survived by his wife, Linda of the home, two daughters, Nykkia Garcia and husband, Tony and Shawna Vega and husband Martin and one son, Leo Bass, all of Iola; six grandchildren, Jordan Garcia, Lexie, Kaeden, Lucia, and Kaleb Vega and Tavon Bass; one brother, Wayne Bass and wife, Lena of Emporia; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

A celebration of life for Leo will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 10, 2020 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. Inurnment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola. Memorials in honor of Leo are suggested to the Leo Bass Memorial Fund and may be left in the care of the funeral home. Condolences for the family can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com .
