Harry David Withers, age 69, of Allen, Texas, formerly of Altoona, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, Texas. He was born February 27, 1943 in Gray County, Kansas, the son of Albert and Ethel (Meador) Withers. He attended the East Banner School in rural Gray County, Kansas and was raised around the Garden City, Kansas. Harry married Peggy Simpson on September 1, 1968 in Garden City, Kansas. The union was blessed with four children. He was a member of Men's Fellowship of Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship in Altoona, Kansas. Harry enjoyed the weekly coffee session with retired area farmers and also enjoyed his own special "Nickel Paper" route that he designed himself delivering to friends so they wouldn't have to grab the paper themselves. He loved NASCAR and rarely missed a race then calling his daughter to discuss after the checkered flag. Harry enjoyed talking to loved ones on the phone and made it a point to call regularly. Harry recently moved with his wife to Allen, Texas to live with one of their daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Withers; daughter, Betty Ann Withers; and one brother, Paul Withers. Harry is survived by his wife, Peggy Withers, of the home; children, Gail Baker and husband Jim of Perryton, Texas; Daniel Withers and wife Linda of Jamestown, North Dakota; Sharon Hopkins and husband Ken of Allen, Texas; six grandsons; two granddaughters; two great grandsons; and one great granddaughter on the way; three brothers, Lawrence Withers of Copeland, Kansas; Raymond Withers and wife Vera of Detroit, Texas; Charles Withers and wife Carolyn of Detroit, Texas; and one sister, Alberta Schmidt and husband Melvin of Cyrus, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship Church, 215 W. 13th St, Altoona, Kansas, with burial following at 2:00 p.m., at Colony Cemetery, Colony, Kansas.
