Hazel Marie Fundis, 95, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Iola Nursing Center. Hazel was born August 7, 1915, at LeRoy, Kansas, the daughter of Omer and Laura May (Sims) Gwinn. She graduated from LeRoy High School and was attending nursing school in Manhattan, Kansas, when an emergency appendectomy sent her home. On March 28, 1935, Hazel married Wesley G. Fundis and they lived and farmed near Aliceville, Kansas, for 52 years. In January of 1987, they moved to Iola. Wesley preceded her in death on December 23, 2002. Hazel enjoyed quilting for all of her family and friends. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, and the Sunflower Quilting Guild. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Edward Fundis & wife, Gloria of Ft. Walton Beach, FL 2 Daughters: Roxanna Rochat & husband, Kim of Camano Island, WA, and Merridith Kimberlin & husband, Steve of Chanute, KS 1 Daughter-in-law: Sharon Fundis of Berryton, KS 8 Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dan Fundis, granddaughter Donna Eshelman, brother Everett Gwinn and sister Helen Rich. Cremation has taken place. JOINT MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR WESLEY AND HAZEL FUNDIS: 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, KS. The Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate.
