Hazel Moorhead

Hazel Inez Moorhead, age 107, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at her home. Hazel was born November 29, 1906 on a farm near Saffordville, Kansas which is located west of Emporia. She was the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Gangloff) Beer. She was the second born of eight children and helped raise her siblings along with doing farm work. In 1942 she married James Searcy and they later divorced. She lived in the Coffey and Lyon County area before moving to Topeka in 1955. On November 11, 1969 she married Arthur W. Moorhead in Nevada, MO and they lived in LeRoy before moving to Iola in 1979. He died October 10, 1980. She enjoyed having a large garden. Survivors include a sister, Ilene Walker of Colorado and several nieces and nephews including Dale Mast and his wife, Beulah of Severy, Kansas. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Pete Beer and Clarence Beer, Jr. and 4 sisters, Alice Mast, Evelyn Telfer, Opal Smith and Ina Mae Finical.
