Helen Maloney, 92, former Iola, Kansas resident, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Mercy Health Care in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Helen was born July 9, 1916, in the farm home of her parents near Colony, Kansas. Her parents were Joseph and May (Irwin) Gregory. She graduated from Colony High School in 1935 and then taught rural school for one year at Indian Creek. She moved to Wichita where she worked as a nanny for a doctor. On July 10, 1938, Helen married Joe Maloney in Nevada, Missouri, and they made their home in Iola. She worked at Thompson Poultry for many years before going to work as a cook in area restaurants, the last being Menegay's North. Her husband preceded her in death on August 4, 1972. She liked to sew, make crafts and quilts, and embroider. Helen moved to Ft. Scott to live with family when her health failed. Scott, KS; Dale Maloney and wife, Evelyn of Iola, KS; and Jim Maloney of Iola, KS 1 Daughter: Diana Duckworth and husband, Chuck of Victoria, TX 1 Daughter-In-Law: Sherry Maloney of Victoria, TX 1 Sister: Eileen Cooper of Iola, KS 1 Sister-In-Law: Esther Maloney of Humboldt, KS 15 Grandchildren, 44 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Leon Maloney, a grandson Darren Maloney, a granddaughter Corina Heard, and a great-grandson Mason Alan Maloney. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Pastor Marty DeWitt will officiate.
