Helen Spurgeon, 76, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kansas. Helen was born February 6, 1934, in Marienthal, Kansas, the daughter of Martin John and Basilia (Herman) Kessler. She grew up in the central Colorado area. Helen married Leslie Morgan and they made their home in Williamsburg, Colorado. They had seven children before he died in 1962. On January 6, 1963, Helen married Clarence E. Spurgeon, Sr. at Garden City, Kansas. They made their home in Colorado most of their marriage moving to LaHarpe five years ago from Texas. Helen was a homemaker who loved doing all types of crafts including ceramics, crocheting, sewing and quilting. SURVIVORS: Her Husband: Clarence Spurgeon, Sr. of the home 9 Children: Ollie Lackey & husband, Albert of Amarillo, TX, Leslie Morgan & wife, Crystal of Iola, KS, Naomi Lawrence & husband, Eddy of Raton, NM, Paul Morgan of LaHarpe, KS, Rosemary Fishman & husband, Mark of Arlington, TX, Lyla Bentley & husband, Jack of Whitehall, AR, Clarence Spurgeon, Jr. of Verona, MO, Wanda Holland & husband, Ralph of LaHarpe, KS, and Bonnie Dorsey and companion, Ollie Kirven of Pampa, TX 30 Grandchildren & 30 Great Grandchildren 3 Brothers: Phillip Kessler and Al Kessler both of Rockvale, CO, and Virgil Kessler of Ozark, AR 2 Sisters: Bernadine Jones of Charlotte, NC and Joan Worthern of Canon City, CO She was preceded in death by a son, Ulysses S. Morgan, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. VISITATION: 2:00-3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Cremation will follow the visitation.
