Helga Mowat

Helga Mowat, age 67, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the St. Lukes South Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas. She was born on October 28, 1942, the daughter of Ferdinand Rudolf Alexander Hauser and Lieselotte Kathe Dagmer (Holdack). Helga graduated from high school in Berlin, Germany; marrying Jerry VanNorman, who was an enlisted soldier. This union was blessed with five children. They traveled the world, ending up in Garnett, Kansas and later divorced. She married Jerry VanNorman at Frankfurt Am Main, Germany on January 20, 1965, later divorcing. She then married Jim Mowat on August 29, 1994 in Ottawa, Kansas. Helga loved the outdoors; she would sit on the patio just relaxing and loved to plant flowers. She worked at the sewing factory in Parker, Kansas; the she worked as a CNA at the State Hospital in Osawatomie, Kansas and also the nursing home there. For the last 10 years, she worked at Alco in Garnett. She was preceded in death by her parents. Helga is survived by her husband, Jim Mowat, of the home; two sons, Carl VanNorman and wife Lisa of Garnett, Kansas; Thomas Van Norman of Florida; three daughters, Jeannette Wiesner and husband Denis of Garnett, Kansas; Jackie Gatlin and husband Matt of Petal, Mississippi; Michelle Johnson and husband Anthony of Magnolia, Mississippi; two step-daughters Barbara Dyer and husband Mike of Pomona, Kansas; and Connie Alcorn and husband Mike of Enid, Oklahoma; one brother, Wolfgang Hauser of Berlin, Germany; twenty-one grandchildren; three great grandchildren with one more on the way. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 on Thursday evening, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helga Mowat Memorial Fund.
