Henry Ackmann, age 79, passed away at Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
He was born on February 27, 1944 in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Wilhelm "Bill" Ackmann and Anna (Dieken) Ackmann. He attended Garnett schools and graduated from Garnett High School in 1962.
Henry was a pipefitter by trade until he retired from the Union. Then he drove a bus for USD 365 for several years. He moved from Richmond to the family farm in rural Garnett (Scipio) in 2007. He and Ede owned the Greenhorn Tavern in Garnett. For years he was heavily involved with Eastern Kansas Sportsman Club and taught Hunter's Safety Courses.
Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, reading and watching Westerns including Gunsmoke. He and Ede enjoyed riding their side-by-side together looking at the land and the critters on it. He also enjoyed going to the coffee shop and the senior center because he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ede Ackmann; his parents Bill and Anna Ackmann; his brother and sister-in-law Herman and Dolores Ackmann; and his sister Hilda Dossman.
Henry is survived by his son, Caleb Ackmann; four daughters, Ronda (Randy) Rossman; Shannon (John) Eimer; G.J. Meinheit, and Tia (Chris) Copeland; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday July 6, 2023 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, Kansas. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
