Howard Joseph Caldwell, age 77, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Allen County Regional Hospital. Howard was born March 15, 1942, to Joseph Caldwell and Ruth (Mueller) Caldwell in Iola, Kansas. Howard graduated from Iola High School in 1960. In 1961 he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Vanderberg Air Force base in California till 1965. On December 24, 1961, Howard and Elaine (Patrick) Caldwell were united in marriage in Iola and this union was blessed with two children, Darrin Caldwell and Danelle Collins. Howard worked at Lehigh Portland Cement. He then worked for USD 257 for thirty years as a Maintenance Technician until his retirement. Howard loved to fish and especially loved to go on fishing tournaments with his favorite fishing partner, Elaine. He also loved to go hunting, camping and just spending time outdoors. Howard also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and KU basketball. Above all Howard loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Howard was preceded in death by his parents. Howard is survived by his wife of the home; one son Darrin Caldwell and wife Jennifer of Olathe; one daughter Danelle Collins and husband John of Iola; four grandchildren Paige and Austin Caldwell; and Ethan and Asher Collins; one brother Lyle Caldwell of Omaha, Arkansas; one sister Peggy Bain of Iola. A graveside service for Howard will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Venue, 1883 US-Hwy 54 Iola, Kansas.
