Howard Chandler Christy, age 80, of Garnett, Kansas, formerly of Overland Park, passed away at the Olathe Medical Center on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, following a bout of pneumonia and related heart complications. He was born January 28, 1928, in Central City, KS, to Odie M. and Zelma Faye (Coberly) Christy. Howard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Japan. On September 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ivone J. Penny Woods in Kansas City, KS. In 1960, Howard and Penny moved to Overland Park, KS where he worked in the construction business as a superintendent in the Local 101 Operating Engineers Union. In 1990, he retired to Garnett, KS, with his wife, to live in the home he grew up in. Howard enjoyed spending time traveling, camping, fishing, sitting on the beach, playing his guitar, playing cards with friends, sitting on his porch and fixing things in his garage. Howard and Penny were Winter Texans, spending each winter in South Texas in their trailer. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Frank and a daughter, Marcia Morrison. Howard is survived by his wife, Penny; two daughters, Jana Manning, of Prairie Village, KS, and Kellie Hendrix, and her husband, Michael, of Overland Park, KS; two stepsons Miles and Mark Cecil, of Kansas City, KS; one brother Richard Christy, and his wife Edith of Garnett, KS; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Howard C. Christy will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 17, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Services, 219 S Oak St, Garnett, KS. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service Saturday morning. Interment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association: 460 N.
