Ida Yoder

December 26, 1933 — May 17, 2024

Ida S. Yoder, age 90 years, 4 months, and 21 days, of Garnett, Kansas died on May 17, 2024, at the home of daughter, Katie and Elmer Schmucker. Ida was born on December 26, 1933, at Hutchinson, Kansas. Ida was the second of seven children of Samuel B. "Red Sam" and Wilma Miller. On July 1, 1951, Ida married Ira J. Yoder at McMinnville, Oregon. They were blessed with eleven children and 57 years of marriage.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years on June 5, 2008; three sons, Leon, on October 15, 1959, and Larry and Joe on June 16, 1978; three grandsons, David Troyer on June 24, 1983, Jonathan Schmucker on October 14, 1995, and Clay Yoder on June 11, 2017; son in law, Harvey Troyer; her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Alvin Miller; two sisters, Katie and Sylvia Yoder; brother-in-law, Lloyd Beachy; two sisters-in-law, Susan and Fannie Miller.

Ida was a loving mother and grandmother; her infectious smile will be dearly missed. Ida possessed a tremendous faith that enabled her to endure the many tragedies she endured throughout her life. She found comfort in the passage, "Be still, and know that I am God". Ida loved to sing, and she enjoyed being sung to and singing until the end. She was happiest at home where she loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers, particularly the iris, larkspur and roses. Ida spent countless hours quilting, where she found solace in the time, and it kept her mind at work. Mowing the lawn was never a timed event, but it must have been to her, because she sure did it quickly. She spoke fondly of the time that her family spent in Oregon and in her later years, her mind took her back there.

Ida is survived by her children, Wilma Gingerich and Harley of Mount Vernon, Missouri, Jerry Lee and Nancy of Pomona, Missouri, Katie Schmucker and Elmer of Garnett, Glen and Carolyn of Garnett, Sam and Marilyn of Mt. Grove, Missouri, Ray and Becky of Garnett, Lavern and Liz of Garnett, Teresa Keim and Mahlon of Garnett, Kansas; 55 grandchildren; 100 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Lydia Beachy of McMinnville, Oregon; brother, Andy Miller; two brothers-in-law, Lester H. Yoder and David T. Yoder of Garnett, Kansas.
