Imogene Mae Hewitt, age 83, of Abilene, Kansas, formerly of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene, Kansas. She was born August 19, 1932, on a farm near Frederick, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Mollhagen) Sager. Imogene was the sister of Maxine, Marvin, Don, Mary Ann, and June. She graduated from Moran Rural High School and attended Parson's Junior College, teaching at Mildred Grade School during the 1953-54 school year. Imogene met Don Hewitt at Parsons Junior College and they married June 22, 1952 at Bronson, Kansas. This union was blessed with six children, Laura, Alice, Gary, Nancy, Kelly, and Susanne. She worked outside the home at various jobs. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, led Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, joined the PTA, and planned school parties as a room mother. Imogene volunteered for the Welcome Wagon at Cottonwood Falls; whatever community she and Don lived in, they were involved in the community life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Don Hewitt; infant, Peggy; parents, Fred and Alice Sager; sister, Maxine; two brothers, Marvin and Don. Imogene is survived by children, Laura Frederick and husband Jim; Alice Sutton; Gary Hewitt; Nancy Weber and husband Richard; Kelly Hewitt and wife Xochitl; and Susanne Brack and husband James; 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Klenklen and June Terrill; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran, Kansas. Burial to follow in the Moran Cemetery.
