Ionna C. Solander

Ionna Christine Solander, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on November 27, 1918, at Rose, Kansas, the daughter of Melroy E. "Roy" Stewart and Lucille G. (Sutton) Stewart. She grew up in Greeley, Kansas, and was graduated from Greeley High School in 1935. She lived in Garnett all of her adult life. She worked at the AAA in Garnett (predecessor to Farm Service Agency) until her marriage. But she will be remembered by many as a long-time employee of the Garnett Savings & Loan Association and secretary to Gwinn Shell, lawyer. She retired after more than 30 years with the savings and loan. At the time of retirement she was the company's secretary. Ionna married John O. Solander on December 2, 1945. The marriage ended in divorce. But two children were born and survive: son Terry Solander of Garnett and daughter Jill Coltrain of Lenexa. Ionna is also survived by her sister, Betty Jean Stewart of Garnett, two cousins, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Angels Building Fund.
