Irene Jantz, 88, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at her home. Irene was born May 12, 1921 in Moundridge, Kansas the daughter of Jacob T. and Katie (Wedel) Schmidt. She grew up in Western Kansas. On July 28, 1941, Irene married Floyd R. Jantz. They lived and farmed near Syracuse, Kansas until moving to a farm south of Gas City in 1951. They operated a dairy and did custom combine cutting. They left the farm and moved into Gas City. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2006. SURVIVORS: 2 Daughters: Lorena Leake of Hidden Valley Lake and Evelyn Maloney of LaHarpe, Kansas 2 Brothers: Ervin Schmidt and Joe Schmidt of Colorado 1 Sister: Elsie Becker of Leon, Kansas A number of grand, greatgrand and great great grandchildren She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Rose Valentine, a son, Kenneth Jantz and a granddaughter, Corinna Heard. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Gas City Cemetery. Pastor Marty Dewitt will officiate. VISITATION: Family and friends will meet at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola to leave for the graveside services at 2:00 p.m. MEMORIAL: Suggested for Fee's Park at Gas City.
