Iris Pauline Guber, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. Iris was born December 27, 1920 at rural Westphalia, Kansas, the daughter of Judd C. and Gladys (Young) Marrs. Iris attended Cottonwood School north of Westphalia. She graduated from Westphalia High School in 1939. In 1943 Iris graduated from Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. On November 9, 1944 she married Alfred M. Guber at Little Rock, Arkansas. Alfred was serving in the Army when the couple first married. They were living in Austin, Texas at the time their daughter, Betty Jean was born. After moving to Topeka, Kansas in 1949 the family returned to Garnett in 1951. Iris was a Registered Nurse. She was one of the founding nurses at the Anderson County Hospital in 1951. In 1967 Iris attended the Billy Graham Crusade in Kansas City, where she accepted Christ. She was a member of the Garnett Church of the Nazarene. After accepting Christ into their lives, Iris and Al were always willing to spread the message of the Lord with many people both inside and outside of the church. Iris enjoyed spending time with her family and especially cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al, on April 28, 2003, an infant brother, Charles, and a brother-in-law, Harvey Gubera. Iris is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Lutz and husband, Jim, of Westphalia, Kansas; two grandsons, Jeffrey Lutz, and wife Victoria, and Kevin Lutz, and wife Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren, Tristan Nicole, MacKenzie Lynn, Owen James, Marah Elizabeth, and Orra Earlene Lutz all of Garnett; brother-in-law, Frank Guber and wife Noelle of Medford, Oregon; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Myers of Stafford, Virginia; and numerous friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Church of the Nazarene in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at Cherry Mound Cemetery in Westphalia, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home in Garnett.
