Ivella Spencer, age 73, of Parker, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2010 at her home. Ivella was born on August 29, 1937, at Fairview, Missouri, the daughter of Albert and Joyce (Powers) Nichols. She grew up in the Ritchey area, graduating from Midway High School 1955. She was united in marriage to Horton Shawgo Spencer on September 10, 1955 in Ritchey, Missouri. Four children were born to this union. They later divorced. The couple moved to Colorado following their marriage living there a few years before moving to Kansas City, Kansas. They later lived in Stanley, Olathe, Fontana, and Lane, Kansas. In 1979 Ivella moved to Missouri, moving back to Osawatomie, Kansas in 1987. She then lived in Lane, Kansas for 10 years before moving to Parker, Kansas where she has lived for the last 8 years. Ivella worked as a custodian at Sarcoxie High School, East Newton High School, Osawatomie High School, and Swenson Grade School in Osawatomie. For the last six years she has owned and operated her own business, Ivy's Painting and Cleaning. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Garnett. Ivella enjoyed fishing, and she loved her work, but above all she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ivella was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert N. Nichols. She is survived by one son, Duane Spencer and wife Brenda of Fontana, Kansas; three daughters, DeEnna McQuay of Osawatomie, Kansas; Donnita Trevett and husband Mickey of Coolidge, Arizona; Laura Reynolds and husband Kevin of Mound City, Kansas; two sisters, Phyllis Turner and husband Gene and Janice Randolph and husband Bob all of Granby, Missouri; one brother, David Nichols and wife Eve of Pomona, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Van Buren Cemetery near Wentworth, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Garnett.
