Jack L. McGrew, 84, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, February 26, 2010, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Jack was born July 19, 1925, at Gas, Kansas, the son of O.C. and Frankie L. (Forrester) McGrew. He graduated from Iola High School in 1943 and from KC Drafting School. Jack served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946. On February 10, 1951, Jack married Shirley P. Wright in Iola. They have always made their home here. He worked for Cyrus Truck Line, LeHigh Portland Cement Company and retired from the City of Iola after 19 years. After retirement, he drove an activities bus for U.S.D. 257 for 10 years. Jack was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, and the Iola Lion's Club. SURVIVORS: Wife: Shirley P. McGrew of the home 2 Children: Bob McGrew & wife, Nancy of Newport Beach, CA and Ruth Vincent & husband, Jack of Iola, KS 3 Granddaughters: Kristi Bettega & husband, Chris of Pittsburg, KS, Jana Garver of Iola, KS and Dr. Megan McGrew of Kansas City, MO 1 Great Grandchild: Brady Bettega of Pittsburg, KS He was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Shirley Menzie, Florice (Burke) Ford and Gerald McGrew. Cremation has taken place. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, where the family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate. INURNMENT: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL CHOICES: Calvary United Methodist Church or Windsor Place (please make checks to WPFR) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
