Jack L. Prather, age 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa, Kansas. He was born February 13, 1924 in Mildred, Kansas, the son of Samuel L. and Lydia Lavona (Sayles) Prather. He graduated from Kincaid High School. Jack joined the United States Navy and served until 1945. Jack married Ruth Thornrough on April 25, 1942 in Fredonia, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. He was a member of Local#226 IBEW for 65 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing gardening and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lydia Prather; and one sister, Rose. Jack is survived by his wife, Ruth Prather, of the home; his children, James L. Prather and wife Dana of Hillsboro, Oregon, Donald Wayne Prather of Ottawa, Kansas, Carolyn Mora of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jason Mora of Olathe, Kansas, Amy Hind of Madison, Kansas, Melissa Mora of Leawood, Kansas, and Megan Rauschamberger of Kodiak, Alaska; three great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Yount of Troy, Ohio; two aunts, Mary Decker of Colony, Kansas and Edith Hall of Orlando, Florida. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Ottawa Retirement Village.
