Jack L. Turner, 65, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at his home. Jack was born June 18, 1944, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Orval L. and Marjorie (Feld) Turner. He grew up in Iola and the family moved to LaHarpe where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. Jack worked for the Western Auto Store, William Brothers Pipeline and then for I.M.P. Boats before working as a self-employed mechanic. On December 15, 1989, Jack married Verna McCollam. They made their home on south Washington street in Iola until their home flooded and they moved to LaHarpe. He was a member of the American Legion in Iola. SURVIVORS: Wife: Verna Turner of the home 1 Son: Marty Turner & wife, Marta of Olathe, Kansas 2 Step-Sons: Patrick Long of Gas, Kansas and Brent Long & wife, Heather of Iola, Kansas 2 Step-Daughters: Jennifer Mallette of Iola, Kansas, and Stephanie Gregg & husband, Gabe of Iola, Kansas His Mother: Marjorie Cantrell of Iola, Kansas 1 Sister: Beverly Boan of Iola, Kansas 1 Nephew: Roger Hoddy of Iola, Kansas 10 Grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter He was preceded in death by his father, infant daughter, Dena and daughter, Cindy Turner. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. MEMORIAL: Allen County Healthcare Foundation (Hospice) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
