Jackie Bowman, age 87 of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011, at Stormont-Vail Health Care Center in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on December 23, 1923, at Jenks, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Wiley and Eva (Spencer) Turnham. She grew up in the area, living in Jenks, Stillwater, and Moore, Oklahoma. In 1950 they moved to their farm in Richmond, then to Garnett in 1985. Jackie was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Bowman on June 7, 1942, at Stillwater, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with one daughter, Joyce. She worked in the kitchen at the Anderson County Hospital for 25 years, until 1989 when she retired. Jackie was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and Altar Society in Richmond. She enjoyed making and sharing cinnamon rolls, and taking care of her home, flowers, and yard. Jackie loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; William and Eva Turnham; her husband, Kenneth Bowman on January 19, 2000; her sisters, Bertha Gibson; Irene; Jalee; and brothers Barney and Don. Jackie is survived by her daughter, Joyce David and husband Les of Garnett, Kansas; one grandson, Rod McGinnis and Evelyn of Waverly, Kansas; great grandchildren Codi Carter and husband Seth; and Chance McGinnis; step granddaughter Sandy David of Lawrence, Kansas; two sisters, Janice Young and husband Gilbert of Enid, Oklahoma; Glennie Cowger of Tempe, Arizona; one brother, Spencer Turnham of Owensboro, Kentucky. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends following a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson County Hospital Foundation or to St. Therese Building Fund.
