Jacob Smith

Jacob Brian Smith, age 14, of Piqua, Kansas, died Monday, October 26, 2009, at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, following an 18 month battle with cancer. Jacob was born July 13, 1995, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Robert Lee and Denise Marie (Karmann) Smith, Jr. He grew up on the family farm west of Piqua. He was a freshman at Yates Center High School. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, riding his brother's four-wheeler, playing football, and constructing models and building scale equipment. Jacob received the American Legion Citizenship Award in May of 2009. SURVIVORS: His parents: Robert & Denise Smith, Jr. of rural Piqua, Kansas 2 Sisters: Ashley Smith of Hartford, Kansas and Jessica Smith of the home Grandparents: Cline & Delores Karmann of Yates Center, Kansas and Robert & Ilene Smith of Piqua, Kansas A number of aunts, uncles & cousins Jacob was preceded in death by his brother, Joshua Leo Smith on April 28, 2009. VISITATION: 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, Kansas. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the Yates Center High School Gymnasium. The Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
