James Guinn Anderson, 77, of LaHarpe passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home in Sherman, Texas. He was born July 17, 1939 in Gas City, KS. He grew up in LaHarpe, graduated from Iola High School, and attended Allen County Junior College and later graduated with his Masters from Pittsburg State University. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Doris Schiefelbine on February 26, 1961 in LaHarpe, Kansas. Over the course of the next five years they added three children to their family. He worked in industry and education and retired from the Kansas State Department of Education in 2001. He enjoyed gardening, family history/genealogy and spending time with his family. He also volunteered and served in various positions in his church throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Evelyn Anderson and a son, James Douglas. He is survived by his wife Doris, daughter Dana Hicken (Matt), son Michael (Tana), grandchildren Sheryl Bustamante (Will), Christian Hicken (Cami), Nicholas Hicken (Dayna), Megan and Lexi Hicken and great-grandchildren Trey and Tripp Bustamante and Aubrey Hicken. A graveside service and inurnment will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Highland Cemetery at Iola.
