James Alan Atkinson, age 74, passed away on July 14, 2023, at his home in Iola, Kansas.
Jim was born in Halstead, Kansas, to Leonard Atkinson and Clara (Marcy) Atkinson. He graduated from Fredonia High School, Fredonia, Kansas, in 1967, and earned his bachelor degree in Industrial Technology with a major in Automotive Technology, from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1971. Jim married Joyce Acheson on January 3, 1971, in Independence, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jayme and Jason.
Jim worked for IMP Boats in Iola, Kansas, for many years. He installed interiors and created patterns for model changes and did finish work on boats. He was handy and helped with many home remodeling projects and vehicle repairs. He enjoyed living in the country, and time with his dogs, and had an appreciation of many types of antiques.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Clara Atkinson.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; his children, Jayme (Gary) Kral of Goddard, Kansas, and Jason Atkinson of Gas, Kansas; sisters, Rita (Keith) Stapleton of Fall River, Kansas, and Linda Moulds of Neodesha, Kansas; and grandchildren, Leila and Caleb Kral.
Cremation has taken place and a family service will be held at a later time.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Iola or to A.C.A.R.F. and left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service at 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas.
