James “Jim” R. Callaway, age 93, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Windsor Place in Iola. Jim was born August 7, 1926, in Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Roy and Ola (Kinney) Callaway.
Jim graduated from La Harpe high school in 1944. He served in the United States Navy for four years and was stationed in Korea. Jim married Forcine L. Gibbons May 9, 1954, in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with four sons and three daughters. Jim worked for the city of Iola power plant from 1954 to 1988. Part time he also worked as a welder and mechanic.
Jim loved to garden and also help others with their gardens. He was an avid sports fan, especially KU basketball, Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Jim loved animals, especially his dogs.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Forcine; his parents; two sons, Steve Callaway and Jim Callaway; one brother Dale Callaway; one sister, Betty Sutterby.
Jim is survived by two sons, Joe Callaway of Iola, Kansas, Jeff Callaway and wife Aimee of Iola, Kansas; three daughters, Teresa Murphey and husband Ed of Iola, Kansas, Carol Settlemyer and husband Rick of Colony, Kansas, Melissa Scott of Shawnee, Kansas; one brother, Robert Callaway of San Diego, California; fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Jim will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
Memorials in honor of Jim can be made to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (A.C.A.R.F) and the American Legion and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
