James "Jim" Leland Cole, age 84, passed away on October 26, 2023, at the Allen County Hospital surrounded by his wife and family.
James was born on November 2, 1938, to Spencer Leland and Vivian Ruth (Ramsey) Cole, the third of nine children.
Jim attended school in Hackett, Arkansas and Mulvane, Kansas, where he graduated with the class of 1956. He was a proud member of the 1955-1956 state high school basketball team.
After high school he worked for the City of Mulvane as a lineman. He served as a Public Works director for the City of Gardner, where he retired in 2000 and became superintendent of Sunny Meadows golf course in Moran, Kansas.
Jim and Anna Dale (Chilcott) were united in marriage on January 18, 1957. This union was blessed with four children.
Jim loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and working on projects. Jim was a councilman for the City of Moran, served as President and board member of the Marmaton Valley school district, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge. Jim was always very active in the community. Coaching and umpiring games was a great passion of his.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother; brothers Frank and Wilbur; sisters, Judy, Grace, Donna and Norma; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Cole; granddaughter, Elizabeth Cole; great-granddaughter Emma Rayburn.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; sisters, Vivian and Debbie; children, Chris and Annette Cole, Tim Cole, Jamie Cole and Russell Cole; 36 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service The Venue, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas, on Wednesday November 1, 2023. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday November 2, 2023, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will take place in Moran Cemetery.
