James H. Fincher, age 78, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. Jim was born on May 30, 1934, in Lafayette County, Arkansas, the son of James Joseph and Dora Viola (Spence) Fincher. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, he was united in marriage to June Holt on February 11, 1962, at the United Brethren Church in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters. Jim worked as a printer at Garnett Publishing Company for many years, also worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Garnett. He then worked at Security Transport of Topeka for 10 years, transporting prisoners and juveniles throughout the United States, retiring at the age of 76. He was a member of American Legion Fuller-Thompson Post #48; Commander of American Legion Fuller-Thompson Post #48; and a member of American Legion Riders. Jim enjoyed socializing; he loved to visit with everyone about anything. He especially loved his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, musicals, plays and concerts. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Joseph Fincher; and his brother, Gene Fincher. He is survived by his wife, June Fincher, of the home; two daughters, Lisa Snedecor of Garnett, Kansas; Stacey Corwin and husband James of Sterling, Kansas; his mother, Dora Viola Fincher of Overbrook, Kansas; brother, Robert Fincher and wife JoAnn of Haughton, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Betty Fincher of Topeka, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Hannah Snedecor, Allisyn Snedecor, Zachary Snedecor, Jordan Stewart, Shelbie Corwin, Chelsie Corwin, Jayden Corwin; and one great grandchild on the way; several nieces, nephews, and their families. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Lone Elm Cemetery in Lone Elm, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m .on Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Fuller-Thompson Post #48 and left in care of the funeral home.
