James "Jim" F. "Jim" Lickteig

Jim Lickteig, age 56, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his home. He was born December 27, 1954, the son of Maurice Jacob Lickteig and Florence (Brummel) Lickteig. He was a member of the last graduating class from Greeley High School in 1972. Jim married Sheri Finan on December 9, 1988 in Olathe, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. Jim was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 101. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for McCorkendale Construction for many years. Jim loved fishing (including teaching his daughter how to cast) hunting, farming, and tormenting his family by watching ESPN and The Weather Channel. You could find him in flannel shirts and long underwear, no matter what The Weather Channel said. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Lickteig; and a brother, Howard Lickteig. Jim is survived by his wife, Sheri Lickteig, of the home; two sons, Jared Lickteig of Pittsburg, Kansas; Tanner Lickteig, of the home; daughter, Danielle Lickteig of Lake Quivira, Kansas; granddaughter, Brooklynn Mefford; his mother, Florence Lickteig, of Greeley, Kansas; five brothers; Jake Lickteig and wife Alice of Garnett, Kansas; Ron Lickteig of Greeley, Kansas; Merle Lickteig and wife Mary of Overland Park, Kansas; Dean Lickteig and wife Diana of Greeley, Kansas; and Rick Lickteig and wife Gail of Greeley, Kansas; three sisters; Nancy Lee and husband Ray of Overland Park, Kansas; Dottie Lickteig of Overland Park, Kansas and Lynn Lickteig and husband Kevin Benjamin of Boulder, Colorado; many nieces, nephews; great nieces, great nephews; and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, Kansas with burial following in the St. John's Cemetery. A rosary will be held on Wednesday evening at the church at 6:00 p.m., with visitation following at the St. John's Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jim Lickteig Memorial Fund.
