Jim Frye

April 19, 1938 — October 4, 2024

Jim Baxter Frye, age 86, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away to the everlasting fishing lake on Friday, October 4, 2024, surrounded by family at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Jim was born on April 19, 1938, in Marion, Indiana, to Marvin Frye and Irene (Baggett) Frye.

Jim was joined in marriage to Durenda Jensen on July 16, 1976, in Neosho Falls, Kansas,

and lived in Iola and Yates Center most of their lives together. They enjoyed the love of seven children they had between them.

Jim was a passionate fisherman, astute angler, and fished about every pond, lake, and river in a 50-mile radius around Yates Center. To say Jim was an avid fisherman would be slander to the sport of fishing. He taught all of his kids how to fish and many other people in the surrounding communities. A one-day fishing trip often turned into 2,3,4 or even 5 days of fishing. A fellow angler once commented to his sons that if they ever saw Jim Frye with a bobber in a pothole in the road he would drop a line next to Jim because he KNEW where the fish were!

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Briana; and his sister, Pat Hazelbaker.

Jim is survived by his wife, Durenda, of the home; children, Clarence (Marla) Frye, Lebo, Kansas, Danny (Darla) Frye, Lebo, Kansas, Rodney (Reta) Frye, Iola, Kansas, Bill (Mary) Frye, Dallas, North Carolina, James (Cristie) Frye, Lebo, Kansas, Shelly (Bryson) Wagner, Yates Center, Kansas, Stephanie (Mike) Morrison, Yates Center, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place and the family is planning a celebration of life.

Memorials are suggested Hay Capital Outdoors for the continued education of youth fishing, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
