James Goddard

James Edward "Jim" Goddard, 52, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. He was born Sept. 2, 1956, at Nuremberg, Germany, to Frank B. and Frances V. (Downing) Goddard. He grew up at Iola from the age of 7. After he graduated from Iola High School, he completed the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Neosho County Community College. He worked as an LPN at the Allen County Hospital and Arkhaven Nursing Home in Iola. Jim has also worked for the Iola Fire Department, was manager of Country Mart in Iola, and was assistant manager at Casey's General Store in Iola, before his health failed. Jim enjoyed growing roses and fishing. On Aug. 9, 1980, Jim married Sue Ellen Salzwedel at the First Presbyterian Church in Iola. She survives at the home. Other survivors include his daughters, Julia Wight and her husband, Aaron of Iola, KS, and Heather Goddard also of Iola, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Donna-Ray Wight and Jacob Aaron Allen Wight, his father, Frank Goddard and his wife, Sandy of Wichita, KS, brother Larry Goddard and wife, Paula and sister Karen Weston and husband, Bill all of Garnder, KS. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances V. Goddard. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Allen County Animal Rescue Foundation (ACARF) and may be left at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
