James L. Kipper, age 91, of Garnett, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Residential Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. He was born May 17, 1925, at Ottawa, Kansas, the third of ten children born to Albert and Theresa (Mersman) Kipper. Jim attended school through the 8th grade and left to work on the family farm. He continued farm work throughout his life. James and his brothers loved baseball and pitched for many local town teams. Jim was united in marriage to Rita Margaret Setter on June 22nd, 1948 at Greeley, Kansas. The union was blessed with three girls and two boys. They moved to their farm in 1952, where Jim and Rita ran a dairy farm, and Jim did carpentry work on the side, building many houses and buildings in the local area. He served on East Scipio School Board, Farmers Coop, Parish Council and always volunteered for community and church projects. Jim was one of five generations to help build and maintain the St. Boniface Catholic Church. Some of his hobbies and past times were fishing, hunting, playing ball, working on antique tractors and playing cards. Jim and Rita also enjoyed going and watching their grandkids events. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; his parents, Albert and Theresa; infant daughter, Julie; grandson, Travis Kipper; brothers, Wilbur, Alfred, Lyle and Richard; sisters, Irene, Viola and Ethel. Jim is survived by his children, Victoria Miller and late husband Robert of Las Vegas, Nevada; Daniel Kipper and wife Donna of Richmond, Kansas; Duane Kipper and wife Linda of Richmond, Kansas; Marikay Galutia and husband Dale of Pomona, Kansas; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Jean Dalsing and Dorothy Lickteig. Mass of Christian Burial will be held, at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 21, 2016, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, burial following in the St. Boniface Cemetery. The family will greet friends following a rosary at 6:30 Thursday evening at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Boniface New Hall Fund.
