James Edward Mowat, age 84, of Garnett, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at his home. Jim was born April 23, 1931 at Elmdale, Kansas. He was the youngest of ten children born to Kenneth and Elda August (Sinclair) Mowat. Jim grew up in Herington, Kansas, moving to Garnett, Kansas in the early 1950's. Jim married Mary Nickelson in Garnett. Two daughters were born to this union, Barbara and Connie. They later divorced. Jim worked for Anderson County as a road maintainer and then worked for McAdam Limestone in Garnett. He also worked for Albert Potter helping him in his construction business. He later married Helga Houser, she preceded him in death on January 29, 2010. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helga; three brothers, Alexander, Kenneth and Robert Mowat; six sisters, Ruth Mowat, Elda Tilton, Jessie Nickelson, Isabella Bailey, Anna Abernathy and an infant sister, Hazel; grandson, Joseph Dyer. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Dyer and husband, Michael, of Pomona, Kansas, Connie Alcorn and husband, Michael Ray, of Enid, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Michelle, Katy and fiancé, Alex, Justin and wife, Theresa; two great-grandchildren, Colby Estes and Alex Alcorn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery.
