James W. Potter, 91, of Iola, passed away November 29, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital at Iola. He was born March 29, 1926 in Iola to George and Edna (Drake) Potter. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he spent the majority of his life in Allen County. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 31 years, as a lineman and later as a repairman. He was well known among his family for his ability to do anything from woodworking to mechanics. He loved vacationing in Colorado, was an avid fisherman and gardener all of his life, but his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his knowledge, his generosity, and his positive outlook on life. He married Beverly Wilson on November 23, 1947 in Iola. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of the home; son, Kyle Potter, of Iola, daughters Becky Welsh and husband, Jack, of Creede, Colorado, and Kenny Sue Miller and husband, Eric, of Iola; grandchildren, Daniel Potter and wife, Becky, Kristi Holland and husband, Jason, Ivy Morris and husband, Chauncey, Samuel Rowe and Kayla, Cody Conley and Bri, Chase Appling and Dara, Kristin Lamb, and Maci Miller; eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Hoffmeier and husband, Don, of Iola. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Brenda Potter and Jayme Appling, a brother, Kenneth Potter, and a sister, Evelyn Weatherman. His service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
