Jamie Lee Jones

Jamie Lee Jones, age 47, of Moran, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at his home.   Jamie’s Autobiography, written April 5, 2007: I was born on September 2, 1971, in Iola, Kansas.  I spent my childhood years in La Harpe, Kansas.  I attended elementary school in La Harpe, Kansas and high school in Iola, Kansas.  During my junior year of high school, I signed up with the Army National Guard on the split option.  That summer I was headed to Boot Camp at Fort Bliss, Texas.  Later that fall, I was married.  The following year I went to Aberdeen, Maryland for AIT as a 63J.  The day after arriving home from training my wife gave birth to our first child.  Shortly after, we purchased our first home. Upon returning from military training, I went into the workforce.  I worked in a Boiler Makers Union as a forge operator for Klein Tools.  During this time we had our second child.  I spent several years with this company, coming to a close when they reduced the workforce.  At that time I went to Midland Brake, Inc., where I worked in semi brake production.  Along came the birth of our third child.  This company as well sustained burdens and was forced to have layoffs.  I then went to work in the oil fields as a pulling unit operator.  I spent several years in the oil fields, until an opportunity in Public Works Department came up.  I started in the Landfill Department, as a heavy equipment operator.  Within a year, I was promoted to the Maintenance Department.  Six months later, I was promoted to the Maintenance Department Foreman.  I spent six years with the Public Works Department.  In 2003, I accepted a position with the Federal Civil Service as a heavy mobile equipment repairer at Field Maintenance Shop 2.  I am presently employed in this position. Throughout my 17-year military career, I have had opportunities to travel to Panama, Belize, Germany, and Iraq.  I have taken many courses to expand my knowledge in my field of expertise.  I have made some remarkable friendships. In 2004, I was deployed with the 891st Engineer Battalion for a 12-month tour in Iraq.  I spent my days and nights servicing heavy equipment heading in and coming out of Baghdad.  The hours were physically and mentally demanding, but with just cause.  Equipment that ran smoothly, without malfunction kept soldiers alive and that was my mission, as Senior Mechanic.  I returned home just in time for Christmas in 2005.  This was an experience I will never forget. As I have acquired a whole new aspect for the importance of a veteran, I have established an American Legion Riders Charter in my hometown.  This really has brought me great pride.  It not only brings more public awareness, it lets the veterans of yesterday know they are not forgotten.  I enjoy the freedom in riding my bike on road trips, while sharing great times with veterans. My wife and I have recently started our own business.  This has taken off and continues to grow.  Quite frankly, it has established much quicker than we had hoped. All in all, I have had a wonderful life and have experienced a wide array of employments, travels, and cultural diversity.  I have been blessed with a resilient, strong family.  Their love and support are always my greatest strength. From his family: Jamie ended up serving 23 years with the Army National Guard, he then accepted a position with AECOM as head of mechanics operations for the US embassy. In 2014, Jamie returned home and took a position with Allen County Public works as a Road and Bridge Foreman. Jamie loved to be outside, he was an avid hunter, and fisherman. He loved working on many projects around his farm. Jamie was a very kind and helpful man. It didn’t matter if you were family or not he was always there for you. Jamie loved to cook, this was his way of bringing everyone together. His grandchildren brought great joy to him. Jamie was preceded in death by one son Colton Jones; his father Jim; and grandparents Kenneth and Rosalee Harrison. Jamie is survived by his “perfect” wife of the home Debbie; two daughters Dezera Jones and fiancée Gregory Eckhoff of Kansas City, Kansas, Destiny Jones and fiancée Tanner Odell of Moran, Kansas; mother Ellen Harrison of Iola, Kansas; two sisters Michelle Narvaez and husband Ted of Iola, Kansas, Morgan Jones of Salina, Kansas; two brothers Jimmy Jones of Mascoutah, Illinois, Tom Jones of Salina, Kansas; three grandchildren Madison Hamlin, Dean Driskel, Oliver Helman; and numerous other relatives. A visitation for Jamie will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral Services for Jamie will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019, 10:00 A.M. at the Hope Chapel Assembly of God in Moran, Ks. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Moran Cemetery.
