Jean Capell

Marjorie Jean Capell, 89, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. She was born August 12, 1925, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of John R. and Ollie O. ( Forward ) Capell,Sr. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and Kansas City Kansas Junior College. Jean received a bachelors degree from Ottawa University and then later a masters degree from the University of Wyoming. She moved to Iola in 1947. Jean taught first grade at McKinley Elementary School for six years and then English at Iola Middle School before retiring in 1985. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her friend, Bonnie Kirby. Bonnie preceded her in death in 2004. She was a member of the National Teachers Association, Kansas Teachers Association, Allen County Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Survivors: nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens located in Kansas City, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Iola Public Library and can be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel who is in charge of arrangements.
