Jeanette Snavely, 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Allen County Hospital. Jeanette was born June 27, 1922, on the family farm south of Humboldt, Kansas, the daughter of John Henry and Idessa (Michael) Stranghoner. She grew up at Rose and on a farm northwest of Yates Center. On April 19, 1941, Jeanette married Merle A. Snavely in Iola. They made their home in Idaho a year and then on a farm southwest of Iola. Mr. Snavely preceded her in death October 15, 1989. She moved into town in 1990. She enjoyed raising her family of eight children, gardening, canning, and caring for her grandchildren. SURVIVORS: Her 8 Children: John Snavely & wife, Judy of Iola, Marilyn Meservy of Taylor, British Columbia, Canada, Morris "Butch" Snavely of Iola, Charles Snavely of Iola, Ann Born & husband, Ed of Monroe City, MO, Joe Snavely of Iola, Nancy Ruby & husband, Sam of Iola, and Don Snavely and wife, Vickie of Iola 1 Sister: Dorothy Hoye of Manhattan, KS 18 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Shirley Ann Snavely, grandson Justin Snavely, 2 sisters Marjorie Stranghoner and Mary Robertson and 3 brothers Hadley T. Stranghoner, Sr., H. Walter Stranghoner and Wayne "George" Stranghoner. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. BURIAL: Iola Township Cemetery east of Piqua, Kansas MEMORIAL CHOICES: Salem, Calvary or Wesley United Methodist Churches Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
